# How to query ANVISA medication data through an API

Find pharmaceutical records sourced from ANVISA in IaBula and interpret registrations, companies and categories with provenance.

## Independent integration with Brazilian data

IaBula provides an integration contract over adopted data resources, including ANVISA's open registered-medication data. It is not an official ANVISA API and does not provide complete access to the agency's systems.

## Search and retrieve details

```bash
curl --fail-with-body --get "$IABULA_API_BASE/v1/medications/search" \
  --header "X-API-Key: $IABULA_API_KEY" \
  --data-urlencode 'q=dipirona' \
  --data-urlencode 'limit=20'
```

Choose a search record and retrieve GET /v1/medications/{id}. Inspect registrations, companies and categories alongside evidence. Objects are included when supported by the catalog; do not replace null fields with estimates.

## Interpret information in its source context

Check evidence class, dataset, retrieval date and available references. Registration dates and status describe source-published facts, not real-time coverage. Regulatory categories do not indicate treatment. File changes are not equivalent to regulatory decisions about medication.
